Georgia Promise Scholarship offers up to $6,500 per year for K–12 Georgia students from low-performing schools; apply April 1 to 30, 2025.

Eligible Countries/Region

  • Georgia, USA Only: Must be a legal resident in the state of Georgia.

Who is Eligible?

  1. Residency: Parent or guardian must have lived in Georgia for at least 1 year (military families exempt).
  2. K–12 Enrollment: Student has attended a Georgia public school for at least two consecutive semesters or is a rising kindergartner.
  3. Low-Performing Schools: Must reside in or be zoned for a public school in the bottom 25% performance list (released by the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement).
  4. Income Priority: Families below ~$120,000 (400% of federal poverty level for a family of four) receive first consideration. Higher-income families can still apply if funds remain.
  5. Non-Public Enrollment: Award recipients cannot attend a public or state charter school simultaneously.
  6. No Overlapping State Scholarships: Students using other Georgia K–12 scholarships (e.g., Special Needs Scholarship or SSO) are ineligible.

Requirements

  • Application: Complete the online form at myGeorgiaPromise.org during April 1 to 30, 2025.
  • Documentation:
    • Proof of Georgia residency (e.g., driver’s license, utility bill).
    • Public school record or zone proof (report card, enrollment letter).
    • Income documents (optional but necessary for priority consideration).
  • Agreement: Sign a commitment not to enroll the child in public school for the funded year and use funds only on approved expenses.

Success Rate (~4–5%)

The program is limited to about 21,000–22,000 total awards statewide, while hundreds of thousands may be eligible. Applying early with complete paperwork improves your chance.

How to Apply (Full Process)

  1. Check Eligible Schools: View the low-performing schools list on MyGeorgiaPromise.org or the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement site.
  2. Gather Documents: Residency proof, public school verification, financial details (if seeking priority).
  3. Submit Online: Create an account on MyGeorgiaPromise.org and complete the form between April 1 to April 30, 2025.
  4. Wait for Results: Notifications typically go out by early summer. Successful applicants receive instructions on accessing and spending the $6,500 ESA funds.
  5. Enroll & Use Funds: Choose your private school, homeschool curriculum, or tutor. The ESA disburses payments to providers quarterly..

  • Published Annually: The Governor’s Office of Student Achievement posts an official list of schools in the bottom 25% performance bracket.
  • Check Your Zone: If your public school or the attendance zone is on this list, you qualify to apply.

Additional Info

  • Renewal: Students can renew the scholarship yearly up to 12th grade if they keep meeting the conditions (non-public enrollment, approved spending).
  • Program Duration: Set to sunset in 10 years unless renewed by the legislature.
