MECAM Fellowship 2025-26 Deadline, Application Process & Details

The Merian Centre for Advanced Studies in the Maghreb (MECAM) is offering a total of nine fellowships, six for postdoctoral and three for advanced researchers in the humanities and social sciences. The fellowship will grant up to 1000 Euro monthly for research purposes. Last date to apply for this fellowship is 10 March 2025.

  • Fellows will reside in Tunis for up to eight months, from September 1, 2025, to April 30, 2026.

Fields of Research

This fellowship is centered around the theme “Imagining Futures: Dealing with Disparity.” Research proposals should align with this theme and relate to at least one of MECAM’s five Interdisciplinary Research Fields (IRFs):

  • Aesthetics & Cultural Practices
  • Inequality & Mobility
  • Memory & Justice
  • Resources & Sustainability
  • Identities & Beliefs

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in a related field.
  • Proposed research should link with MECAM’s main theme and at least one IRF.
  • Interest in engaging with scholars from the Maghreb, Middle East, Europe, and other regions.

Application Requirements:

  • Curriculum Vitae: Including a list of publications (2-3 pages).
  • Motivation Letter: Detailing the connection of the research proposal to the Maghreb region, MECAM’s theme, and the chosen IRF (1-2 pages).
  • Research Proposal: A concise abstract of the project (maximum 1,000 words).
  • References: Names and contact details of two referees (letters of recommendation are not required).
  • Writing Sample:A current journal article or thesis chapter.
